The Meninas

Today I am going to talk about the painting "Las meninas" by Velázquez. It is a faumous painting, You may or may not like the piece, but I'm not here to talk precisely about that.Like many artists, the same painter appears in the work painting. You might remember similar scenes like when Rafaello Sanzio paints himself as a character in the school of Athens. But, in this case Velázquez reincarnate a real scene.

There are speculations and mysteries. You can see the kings in the mirrow, It's like we see ourselves. There are people who imply that the vessel that is given to Margarita (The little girl) is because at that time the royals ate them. These vessels of clay were called búcaros caused a kind of anemia making them paler.(Freak fact, I know)

Girls in Portuguese makes reference to the little bridesmaids who served Margarita. In the painting it seems that they are looking at the viewer. The Baroque style is quite noticeable as well.

There is a combination of aerial perspective and geometric perspective. The technique gives this result of depth in addition to carrying out the representation of space very well. This painting drove Picasso crazy, who more than once tried to recreate the painting in his style.

When you join the positions between Velazques, Margarita, the two ladies who serve her and the man at the door, you create a constellation. The name of this constellation in Coronae Borealis. The name of the principal star of this constellation is Margarita Coronae. So for many people the painting has an astrological secret.

Although as is known, finally the one who reigned was Margarita's brother who was born after.
